Name: Callisto Jasmine Verity
Alias: CJ, Verity
Age: 13
Birthday: January 9
Race: Meta-human
Hometown: London, England
Grade: Ninth
Gender: Female
Sexuality: Undecided
Appearance: Callisto’s hair is naturally dark brown, straight and too short to pull back. Her skin is rather pale, contrasting starkly to her hair. She rarely smiles, but her lips are pulled into a thin line, especially when frowning. Her build is average and she stands five feet tall. When standing next to many of the older students, she appears to be short, although she is not. Her eyes are naturally dark hazel and narrowed; they are her most dominant feature and it frequently appears she is wearing eyeliner, though she never does.
Most often, she can be seen wearing anything comfortable and purple. Her clothes are mostly looser: a shirt, tennis shoes, pants and a jacket or sweatshirt. Her favorite coat is a purple hooded sweatshirt with yellow stars on it. Her main distinguishing feature is that her hair has turned bright purple, the result of an unfortunate encounter involving a tie-dyeing activity at camp where the counsellor selected the wrong type of dye.

Personality: At a first glance, Callisto is a fairly quiet thirteen-year-old student. She is a studious girl and enjoys spending time with her books rather than with her friends. In her opinion, people are boring and books provide much better adventures. Rarely does she go anywhere without a book in one of her hands or her schoolbag; it does not matter what the content of the book is. In addition to reading quite a bit, she enjoys listening to other people talk and share information.
Although Callisto is definitely an introvert, she is not passive. She is sarcastic and snaps back at other students, particularly when she has not had enough sleep the night before. Frequent arguments with Ali also have a negative effect on her emotional state. Callisto also rarely forgives and never forgets. If someone makes an enemy of her, they have made an enemy for life. This is a character flaw, but she can hardly help holding grudges – and holding grudges for a very long time. Conversely, she does not trust people easily.
Once she has made a friend, however, she is very protective. Whether it is over her twin sister, Ali, or younger sister or brother, Lara or Daniel, respectively, she would rather die than let anyone hurt them. She will get defensive when any of the older students do as little as glare at Ali when she is around.
Callisto does not always follow the rules that have been established and nor does she follow convention. She talks under her breath when she thinks she will not get caught and she does not hesitate to challenge another student to a fight, whether it be using powers or brains or a physical brawl even. However, she has learned to exercise some level of descretion. She challenges the authority of older students and rarely does as she is told to and easily gets annoyed at those who follow the rules closely.
Greatest Fear: She is very afraid of eels, snakes and almost anything else with a snake-like appearance. This stemmed from when her family went to the zoo when she and Ali were young and a snake slithered out of its hiding place and it startled her.
Most Important Secret: Either that she's afraid of snakes or that she still sleeps with her stuffed wolf, Barkley. Her roommates probably know the latter; only Ali knows the about the snakes.
Character Background: Callisto Verity comes from a line of meta-humans. Her parents, Daemyn Verity and Annora Wallace, had met in school and found they had a lot in common. They became very close friends and were eventually engaged, then married. Daemyn’s family came from a rich line of meta-humans, where the gene was passed down from parent to child, and his parents were quite apprehensive about him marrying Annora, as her family was lower-middle class. However, after seeing how happy their son was, Zachariah and Leah Verity could hardly refuse giving their son permission to marry Annora.
Just a year after Daemyn and Annora were out of school, they were married. Daemyn worked as a healer at a special hospital for meta-humans just outside of London. Three years after their marriage, the fraternal twins were born. The older of the two, born just before midnight on January 9th was Callisto, after her maternal grandmother, and the younger, born very early in the morning on January 10th was named Alison. Two years later, Lara was born. Daniel, the twins’ younger brother, is six years younger than they are. Annora works at home, taking care of her own children and providing daycare to some of the local children, as well.
Callisto and Ali were taught at home by their mother, but Callisto always found that she was closer to her father. Like Daemyn, Callisto was passionate about science and loved to listen to her father tell stories about the astronomy classes he took during secondary school. Her father worked most of the day, so Callisto would stay up late at night asking Daemyn questions about how to distinguish an oak tree from a birch tree. She remembers almost all everything her father told her and can recall that information quickly.
One incident that sticks out in Callisto’s mind was when her parents decided to take her and Ali to the zoo when they were about two-and-a-half years of age. Everything went as planned until they came to the reptile exhibit. The girls were looking at the terrariums that the snakes and lizards were housed in when a copperhead snake slithered out of its hiding place under a rock. Callisto was startled, fell backwards and started crying. Ever since, she has been very afraid of snakes and most snake-like creatures.
As part of every child’s life, chores are boring. Annora possessed the rare ability to clean a room – or the entire house – by verbal command, a form of selective telekinesis. However, she insisted that the twins and Lara cleaned their own rooms and washed the dishes so they would learn to do so themselves. Callisto never cared particularly for cleaning and always thought Ali’s games where she pretended to be a maid for a princess were silly; this was the source of several arguments between the girls when they were younger. She and her sister used to share a room, but Callisto preferred to walk down to the public library rather than vanish upstairs where her sisters spend their free time. Her mother is usually easy-going and lets the twins go anywhere in the neighborhood they want, with a few restrictions.
When she’s not being taught by her mother, Callisto would spend most of her time either at the library or at Hana’s house. Hana Rei was probably her only close friend in the neighborhood. Often the girls would spend hours at the library, pouring over books. Callisto would take to the science books or adventure novels and Hana to the historical fiction. When she’s not at Hana’s house, she, Hana and Ali would go over to Emrick’s place. Another friend of theirs, Emrick’s family is well-established and filthy rich.
When Callisto was nine, her powers first came into play. She and her friends – Ali, Hana, Emrick, Connor (Emrick’s older brother) and Donovan (Emrick and Connor’s cousin) – were at summer camp when Callisto and Emrick found themselves up the creek without a paddle. Literally. Frightened, the girl jumped into the water, but found she did not submerge. She grabbed Emrick’s arm, pulled him out of the boat and both floated through the air and towards the shore. Needless to say, most of the campers were freaked out when the found out about this, but one held little surprise. Donovan explained – as well as he could – that Callisto was a meta-human. This explanation didn’t comfort the camp counselors any, but it made Callisto feel a little better, as her father was a fire manipulator.
About a week later, the summer camp group was tie-dyeing t-shirts and bandanas to take home. When Emrick was carrying a batch of purple dye back to their table, he tripped over a twig and fell. The bucket of liquid went flying and splashed mostly onto Callisto. She managed to create a force field around her body, but the purple dye streaked all over face and hair. Although this dye was not supposed to be strong, her hair has remained bright purple to this very day. Only one person knows why and he is not likely to tell.
Until she was thirteen, life went on. She and her sister were homeschooled and their parents taught them how to control their powers in the evening – Ali has the ability to turn invisible at will. During the summer before that, the girls were both invited to Kosaka Haven and they are on their way to star the school year soon.
Powers:
Field Manipulation: Callisto has the ability to manipulate the gravitational and electromagnetic fields on objects that she is physically in contact with or objects she has touched recently. This is a one touch/one use concept. It only works on objects relatively close to her size; she wouldn't be able to have much of an effect on an object with about five times the mass she has. She can also create limited force fields from this.
Flight: Stemming from her field manipulation powers, she can fly through the air. Most often, she floats just above the ground and she leaves no footprints. She does not have wings.
Skills: She has a good memory and doesn't forget easily. She can swim fairly well and enjoys doing so.

The tip of Callisto's mouth turned up in a disguisted smile of sorts. She had come here to be alone; she thought they all had. What were the chances of finding everyone else? After all, there were plenty of other places in the castle to go. She could've gone to the top of the Astronomy tower, sat there with a good book and not run into any of this mess.
Her arms crossed for a moment and she thought about trying to fight the other students off. Had these been other first or even second year students, she would have; she was a good fighter and her wolf-form allowed her to access better senses and reflexes than most people had. However, since these two students were obviously older than she was, it seemed futile.
"Whatever," she mumbled, obviously cross, but she winced at the pain in her arm. Maybe she had gotten hurt more badly than she was willing to acknowledge. She turned to Serena. "Not that you need to know this, but yeah, I'm a first year." Truth was, she loved being here more than being anywhere else, even if she did miss her family. Well, she didn't miss her mom much or Lara and Alilika was at Kosaka too, so she could see her twin whenever she wanted to. Surprisingly, it was her father that she missed the most, even though he was rarely home.
"And Kosaka is a heck of a lot better than the other world," she added, muttering under her breath as she rubbed her left arm. She could only hope it felt better in time for her next class, especially for physical education.
