Name: Donovan Hugo Isaacs
Alias: Donovan, "Wheels"
Age: 16 (turning 17 this school year)
Birthday: March 20
Race: Meta-human
Hometown: Southwestern USA (specifically Phoenix, Arizona)
Grade: Junior
Gender: Male
Sexuality: Undecided
Appearance: Donovan has a naturally light skin-tone, though he does tan a little bit during the summer. During the winter, his skin usually returns to its normally palled tone. His very dark brown eyes are deeply-set. Between the color and their placement in his face, there are times his irises appear nearly black. Thick, dark brows rest just atop these dark orbs with which he sees. His bony nose is larger than most people’s and comes to a point at the end. With the exception of his bottom teeth being uneven, there is little to say about his mouth being unique.
His hair is only slightly darker than his eyes are. His hair has grown long in the back; even when it is dry, it will reach down to his neck. When his hair is still wet, it reaches nearly to his shoulders. His dry hair is naturally curly and rarely tames itself. Oftentimes he slicks it back with hair gel to keep it out of his eyes, though up to two times per week he’ll be careless enough to forget. This is when the curls will flop into his face, inhibiting his range of vision.
If Donovan is standing, he is approximately five feet, nine inches tall. In any given situation, he adopts a casual stance, standing up straight, but with his shoulders fully relaxed. He makes no particular effort to stand up especially straight, even when he should to make a good impression on another person. Oftentimes when he sits down, he will slouch slightly, especially when he is in class and the subject matter does not interest him. His build is thin to average and his arm muscles are larger than the typical person. This comes from having to compensate for his lack of lower body strength and usage.
Donovan was born without the lower portion of his legs; both of his legs end just above his knees. On most days, he uses metal prosthetics to walk, but sometimes he uses a manual wheelchair. When he does walk with the prosthetics, he does so with an obvious limp, which is even more apparent when he tries to walk faster or run. When he uses his wheelchair outside of his room, this is usually a sign that his prosthetics are causing him to get blisters. His wheelchair is mostly black, but has orange stripes on it.
His usual clothes consist of jeans and a short-sleeved, solid colored t-shirt. His jeans are loose, but not baggy; they are generally wrinkle-free, as he actually takes care to fold them. His favorite grey sweatshirt is rarely far from his side, especially when the weather drops below 20ºC. It is rare that he will dress nicely for any special reason, but when he does, he wears a standard black suit, white button-up shirt and a dark green bow-tie. He also has a pink one, which was a Christmas gift from his cousin, but he rarely wears it.
Image: None. I think I did a decent job describing how he looks.
Personality: Donovan is fairly extraverted. He loves spending time around people and he tends to be easy-going, even in large crowds. He will be the first person to suggest going out to the movies or planning a game night, the liveliest one at whatever event ends up being planned and oftentimes the last person to leave. He talks a lot and rarely passes up a moment to speak; it is nearly unheard of when he is at a loss for words.
He really loves to entertain other people. With a quick wit, he rarely has to think of a comeback. Arguing with other people is a sport to him; he enjoys it and never means any harm, especially when one of his friends allows him to play devil’s advocate. However, sometimes he will be enjoying himself too much and make a mistake with what he says. This has gotten him into all sorts of trouble in the past, whether it’s a friend being upset at him or punishment from his adoptive parents.
To Donovan, many of life’s problems exist as if they were pieces on a giant chessboard and he is commanding them to move about. Although he may seem whimsical, nearly everything he does has some meaning behind it and often some hidden purpose or agenda. He enjoys manipulating situations and seeing what happens. Experimentation is merely a game for him. Coming up with unique answers for solving problems is something he is particularly good at.
Donovan is usually optimistic about life in general, except when he becomes frustrated with himself. When this happens, he tends to focus on the little, unimportant details, and losing sight of the big picture. While in this state of mind, he has little patience for dealing with others, particularly those who are not excellent at what they do. Donovan is also not a morning person, hates the smell and taste of coffee and believes that someone should a better way than to ingest caffeine without drinking coffee or tea.
Though oftentimes silly during the day, Donovan becomes oddly serious and sensitive at night. It is almost as if he ages in maturity about ten years when the sun goes down; in such a state, it is difficult to rile him up. He is more sympathetic to the desires of others at night, thinks things through and is much more gently honest.
Greatest Fear: Of his friends or family being hurt and not being able to help or do anything about it. He's also afraid of those semi-translucent scorpions and of flash floods.
Most Important Secret: When at summer camp and making tie-dye shirts, he accidentally created a very strong bond between the dye and Callisto Verity's hair, causing her hair to retain that purple color for far longer than it should have.
His other most important secret (and a darker one) was that he keeps a photograph of Leonard Page - his brother by birth - in his wallet at all times. For the significance, see his background.
Character Background: Donovan Isaacs was born on March 20 to Nicholas and Kelly Page not far from London, England, but he was given up for adoption shortly afterwards. Not only were his birth parents horrified by having a child with a physical deformity, but their family is in bad shape: their oldest son, Leonard, had just been arrested and plead guilty to the first-degree murder of two nurses at the meta-human hospital. Lance and Janet Isaacs took young Donovan in with open arms and along with his older sister, Kendra, became a family.
Lance and Janet Isaacs, who believed they could not have children, adopted young Donovan into their Arizona home. Their immediate family also included their older adopted daughter, Kendra, who was then four years of age. Janet, was a historical researcher, specializing in Native American archaeology from the area and Lance ran a web design company from home. His mother is Catholic and his father is a Christian, so he grew up attending church on a semi-regular basis, as well as Mass a few times per year.
When Donovan was very young, he spent time in and out of the hospital from surgery and what should have been fairly major complications later on. The doctors were stumped when Donovan recovered at a much quicker rate than any other patients did. While Kendra was at school during the day, Lance would use the flexibility that working from home allowed in order to teach his son how to read, write and do arithmetic. Later, Donovan became proficient at history, science, mathematics and Spanish. Growing up in Arizona gave him the practical experience speaking Spanish that he would not have gotten in certain other parts of America.
Donovan is an odd case, even among metas. His powers were existent even when he was young and he was approximately seven when his father first caught him using his unique note-taking abilities. Lance did some research online and discovered ways for Donovan to develop his powers further and the boy soaked in the information like a sponge.
Other than being homeschooled by his father, playing on the wheelchair basketball team at the community center and working on developing his powers, the only unique event in his childhood came when he was thirteen. During most summers, he was allowed to spend time with his English cousins - Lance and Janet found it appropriate that Donovan and Kendra both know about their birth families - and Donovan, his cousins and some of their friends went off to summer camp. On one of the last days of camp, they were dyeing t-shirts to bring home. It seemed simple enough, but when Donovan's younger cousin tripped and the purple dye went flying, Donovan panicked and his ability to manipulate chemicals came into play. As the purple liquid splashed over one of the Verity twins, he rearranged the bonds and fastened it permanently to her hair.
That summer proved to be an interesting one. Not only because of camp, but on the plane trip back to Arizona, he found an old photograph of a young man with a note attatched. "Thought you might like to know what Leo used to look like. -Connor" Upon reading this, Donovan put the colored picture in his wallet. He still keeps it there.
Few other things in Donovan's life are all that interesting. Recently, he has nearly finished up high school and has been accepted to Kosaka with junior status, though he has probably taken enough credits to be a senior.
Powers:
Chemical Manipulation: Donovan can rearrange molecules at a molecular level. This allows him to break and form bonds according to the laws of the physical universe.
Restrictions: This does not work on anything alive. So no people, no animals and no plants, etc. It also doesn't work on viruses.
He has to obey the physical laws of the universe. So no creating or destroying matter completely. He's only allowed to rearrange its structure.
Mind's Brush: He has the ability to make words, drawings, etc. appear on paper or a chalkboard as if they were drawn or written in ink. He must think of the words he wants to appear on paper and picture them in his mind before they appear.
Basically what happens is his hand (or in some cases, he uses both his hands) glides over the paper and words that he is thinking appear. Or relatively simple drawings. Especially useful for taking notes in class; not useful for much else.
Restrictions: He must use either his hand(s) or his finger(s) to access this power.
Skills: Since he grew up in a predominantly bi-lingual community, Donovan speaks both Spanish and English fluently. He is also very good with animals and has a cat, Mercutio. He also enjoys sports (as well as he can play them) and is fairly decent at them.

Donovan rolled down the pathway from the castle to the lake until he heard a noise rustle in the bushes not far from where he parked. Because he had just gotten ready for bed, he hadn't bothered to put on his prosthetics; instead he managed to convince a telekinetic student to propel his wheelchair to get down the stairs and outside. Once outside, he was free to operate it as it should have been used.
It was a beatiful night outside, despite the chilly weather and the clouds overhead. As he pulled his grey sweatshirt close to him, Donovan was quick to remind himself that this was the UK, not Arizona; weather shouldn't be in the triple digits during the day here. From between the clouds, the smallest crescent of a silver moon peeked out and reflected on the lake; to him it looked like one of the pictures of an artifact his mom had once shown him from that old history book.
After a few moments of looking at the moon, he grew bored with that and his eyes darted over towards where a grey and white dog-like creature was sitting. However, this creature looked a bit large to be a dog and somehow it seemed more out-of-place. He thought for a moment. Well, it couldn't be a cat and it wasn't a dog. Thank goodness that the moon wasn't full or he would have been worried that werewolves were around. No matter, Donovan loved all kinds of living creatures - except for scorpions. This four-legged creature was most certainly not a scorpion, so he didn't have anything to worry about.
"Hey," he whispered, using the quietest voice he could. He leaned down and put his hand close to the ground, still sitting in the black wheelchair with seemingly random orange accents. "I won't hurt you." He rubbed the tips of his fingers together, looked down at the creature and waited as patiently as he could.
