WIP
Name:
John Frusciante
Alias:
"The Professor" (due to the fact that he astonishes people with random knowledge on just about every subject at seemingly random, but appropriate times)
Former band mates called him "Mr. Huckleberry"
Age:
27
Birthday:
March 5
Subject:
General Music/Theory and all advanced/specialty music classes
Other Activities:
None really. John just sort of hangs around and practices all day when he isn't teaching.
Race:
Human (sometimes mistaken for an Angel/Demon when heard playing guitar)
Gender:
Male
Sexuality:
Straight
Appearance:
Not the tallest or shortest person, John is of about average height somewhere between 5'10" and 6'0" (he hasn't checked in a long time). On his arms, there is a very slight amount of scarring left from injecting syringes into them, and on his left shoulder is a tattoo of a snake circling itself with an arrow in the middle seen here. At times, he may have a beard which he just lets grow in or shaves depending on his mood, and from time to time lets his hair grow out to epic proportions.
John can usually be seen wearing any sort of T-Shirt and regular jeans with tennis shoes. He doesn't really care all that much about what he wears on a day-to-day basis. When the situation warrants it, he will of course dress formally. Other than those rare times, John just puts on whatever he sees first in his dresser. Because of this, he'll occasionally receive an odd look or two.

Personality:
Having recovered from a drug addiction and experiencing his idol and friend Hillel Slovak dying from overdosing, John is very anti-drug. He absolutely refuses to be involved with drugs and junkies. While not completely outspoken against them, if he catches anyone he knows and/or cares about experimenting with heavy drugs such as cocaine or heroin, John will promptly warn them of the dangers and do everything that he can to persuade them to stop.
Temper wise, John is a mellow person and very easily liked. Not many things can truly upset him, and even when they do, he wont react viciously. He'll simply make his point and leave it at that. Even if he's right and knows he's right, if the other person (or people) doesn't agree with him, then more power to them. It truly is hard to be pissed off by John or hold anything against him.
Physically, John wont fight. He is against violence and strongly believes that things can be solved in other ways. However, he has learned an art called Aikido in which he has great prowess. Using Aikido, John is able to leverage people who are a physical danger to himself and others into a submissive position without causing anyone any harm no matter what their size or strength. This way, he can remain non-violent, while not getting kicked around.
As far as political views go, John doesn't associate with any political party aside from the Colbert Nation. He does however believe, that everyone as an individual is no better than another. Petty things such as race, gender or sexual orientation just don't register with him. Discrimination against people for things such as that are some of the only things that truly bother him. In a song that he wrote in part called The Power of Equality, it addresses social issues such as race and conveys the message that we are all equal, and as a society need to get past matters that do more harm than good.
Greatest Fear:
Friends/Family dying.
Most Important Secret:
John has no "secrets" to speak of.
Character Background:
John was born in Queens, New York to a concert pianist and an opera singer. Soon after this, they relocated to Tuscon, Arizona and later Florida. While in Forida, his parents separated and he moved with his mother to Santa Monica, California.
About a year later, they moved to Los Angeles with his stepfather who truly supported him in becoming an artist. As many youths did, John became involved with the punk rock scene and wanted to learn guitar. When he finally asked his parents to buy him one, they agreed but made in on their terms. He was to learn to play acoustic and wasn't allowed to play rock. John had to prove that he was dedicated by first learning classical and jazz guitar, which he protested at, but later thanked his parents for it.
In his teens, he had taught himself lots of different songs and discovered several techniques in the process. When John showed this to his parents, they were impressed by his progress and decided to buy him a vintage Fender Stratocaster as a reward for his hard work. Soon after this, he studied different guitarists such as Alex Lifeson, Jeff Beck, Jimi Hendrix and Frank Zappa. Because of his infatuation with guitar, he was given a proficiency test at the age of 16 and got a high enough score on it, that he was allowed to drop out of high school and still get a diploma with his parents consent.
By 17, John was already writing songs and taking classes at the Guitar Institute of Technology, though he figured out a way to punch in for classes without actually having to attend. Thus, he allowed himself complete autonomy in pursuing various recreational drugs.
Soon becoming addicted to heavier drugs while touring California, he completely stopped playing music for several years. John sold all of his instruments for drug money, and very soon became a junky, sleeping in his car. Eventually, he quit heroin by going cold turkey, but was still unable to break his cocaine addiction.
Struggling with cocaine, John checked into a rehab clinic in Pasadena. When he arrived, he was diagnosed with an oral infection caused from cocaine that could be lethal. In order to alleviate this, his molars had to be removed and replaced with dentures. John also got skin grafts to help repair the abscesses on his deeply ravaged arms. Two months later, he checked out of rehab and was once again, for the first time in five years, truly healthy.
John began to value his health and got back into music. His life was a lot more spiritual and drug free. He feels higher than he ever was using any drug to be free of the physical and mental dependence on harmful substances. Starting the practice of Vipassana, he discovered the profound effect that self-discipline had on his mind and body. Even though he was an addict, John never saw drugs as a dark-period for him. In a way, he appreciates that they helped him re-discover himself and become more aware.
A couple years later at the age of 25, John retired having made enough money to last him for the rest of his life. Two years after that, he received a strange letter in the mail. John had known about the Meta-Human vs. Human issues for quite some time and it had truly irritated him. However, the letter was an invitation to come to a new school for Meta-Humans to teach music. Not having many other things to occupy himself with, John decided to accept the offer and try his hand at teaching young(er) minds. Perhaps he could help influence them and lead them on a good path in life?
Powers:
While he is a human and has no "powers" to speak of, John has an uncanny ability to empathize with others.
Skills:
While not the most proficient athlete or lawyer, John has undeniable skill at guitar, piano, singing, percussion and any other instrument he may decide to pick up. It's almost as if he was born a virtuoso, though most of his skill is acquired through hours of practice. Be it classical, jazz or rock, he can play it with a mastery that most people take a lifetime to achieve. What he lacks in raw physical strength, he more than makes up for in dexterity and speed.
John also speaks fluent Spanish and Chinese.

Sample RP - Outside of Class:
John sat down at the harpsichord bench, staring down the open cabinet of the worn red instrument. It simply wanted to be played, and it would give him no greater pleasure than to do as it wished. Rustling through some papers, he withdrew a 5 page minuet and laid it on the music stand. John took a deep breath, filling his lungs with the ancient musky air of the old harpsichord. It was truly a feeling to behold- the mysticism of such an old and great instrument, the still air begging to be filled with melodies. This was one of those things that gave John a rush. Laying his fingers lightly on the keys, John hesitated to play anything, though he knew what he had to do.
Without thinking another thought, he delved into the minuet, playing it with great technical skill, the notes crisp and flowing in his ears. Having remembered the entire piece, John closed his eyes, envisioning himself living on a lighted stage, approaching the unreal. He could truly think and feel, in touch with some reality beyond the gilded cage. While it felt like merely a moment, about fifteen minutes passed like this. In an instant, like a smack to the head, John came down from his high, still hearing the last chord ring like a Jerusalem bell. He stared blankly at the pages for a moment before packing them back up and exiting the room. This was an experience he'd never forget.
